Week 1:
My name is Shannon Bullard. I am a wife to Scott, who is the Dean of Academics at Judson College. We have four children; Judson (10), Desmond (7), Campbell (6), and Walker (4). I have taught kindergarten in both North Carolina and Texas . I have also taught 1 year as a second grade resource teacher. In 2008 I left public education to focus my time on raising my children. For the past 3 years I have been directing Christ Episcopal Preschool in Tuscaloosa, AL. I hope to return to the classroom next year when my youngest enters kindergarten. I had decided to work on my masters so I can get caught up on current teaching strategies. In my spare time (which is few and far between), I enjoy watching my children play soccer and I enjoy watching my daughter participate with her gymnastics team.

ReplyDeleteHi Shannon!! How long have you been married? Is it a coincidentce that your husband works at Judson and your son's name is Judson?
ReplyDeleteI have been married for 13 years. Yes, it is a coincidence that my sons name is Judson. However, the family joke is that my husband was offered the job because of my sons name. Both the college and my son, were both named after a baptist missionary named Judson.
ReplyDeleteHello Shannon,
ReplyDeleteBeing a stay at home parent has been one of the greatest gifts I could give my children. Now that they are older, I'm going back to teaching. I've had a great year catching up on current teaching trends. I've created my own re-entry program by observing teachers in the classroom and reading education books on specific topics. Will you look for a full-time position in early childhood education or is there another area you are interested in?
Shannon,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your blog. I saw where your husband is the Dean of Academics at Judson. I'm very familiar with Judson College. My dad is a Southern Baptist Pastor in Alabama so that's how I know about it. We had a girl at our church that attended Judson for a couple of years. Have a great day.
Kyle
Heidi,
ReplyDeleteYes, I plan to search for an early childhood position for the 2012-2013 school year. I feel very blessed to have been able to stay at home with my four precious children. My youngest will be going into kindergarten this coming school year, so I hope yo join him in the first day of school jitters:)
Like you, I have been reading many books to refresh my memory on teaching tends. I have been an active volunteer in my kids classrooms, and I always take mental notes of things that I like and do not like.
Are you teaching now or will you be searching for a position in the future?
I have been a substitute teacher for Hoover City Schools since 2006. Like you I've been an active volunteer: PTO President, Band Boosters President, copy parent, chaperone, reading helper, teaching a writing workshop, and more. I taught high school before kids, but through subbing and volunteering I fell in love with the middle grades.
DeleteGood luck to you!
Kyle,
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the young lady who spoke of enjoyed her time at Judson. My husband loves the college. He started as the religion professor and has moved into administration. Judson is a wonderful place. They are following my journey very closely and working to enhance their online learning program.
